It is a rather fascinating trivia that, according to a survey done in 2012, more women than men in the USA have tattoos. Though the Latin word for Tattoo is Stigma, it has long shed its negative image. Gone are the days when it was considered a social taboo and a hindrance to your career goals. More and more employers than ever have an open mind towards it and accept this ancient, cultural, and beautiful at the same time as a medium of self-expression and body modification. It is nowadays an art, a way to tell a story with creative use of imagery, motifs and symbols etched into the skin through various styles.
From its earlier association with Headhunting and socio-religious connotation, among a variety of tribes around the world, it has now been transformed into a subculture with the mainstream culture of our society. With ever-increasing interest and acceptance, more people are getting tattoos for a variety of reasons such as, for their loved ones, for a conversational piece, to pay homage/tribute, etc. So if you too are looking to get your first or next tattoo and you are in Dallas Texas then you should check our list of 13 of the best tattoo studios and their artists where you can get a tattoo.

Tattoo Aftercare Tips for Noobs
Now comes the most essential part after you have taken the big leap, and finally get yourself a great piece of art that you would wear for the rest of your life. You need to take care of it too. Getting a tattoo is a painful and meticulous process and it takes a lot of skill and patience from the tattooing artists to execute a piece of design. Your responsibility and role start right after the process is done. Aftercare of tattoo is as crucial as getting a tattoo as rightly healed right would come out even better and stay vibrant for a longer period of time.
A little bit of laziness, unawareness, and lack of willingness to take care of the tattoo would eventually be detrimental to the quality of the tattoo and affect your skin. The tattoo artists are the most qualified people to tell you about the aftercare and it should be done according to their guidance and whatever they suggest you do. Wherever you eventually get a tattoo will advise you how to take care of it, not just right after it is freshly done but also long-term care for the tattoo. The most crucial aftercare phase is right after it is freshly done.
Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Keep the clerk bandage which your artist must have applied for the recommended period of time by him/her (Usually, 3-7 days, don’t keep it beyond that).
- Keep the area clean and dry. Taking a shower is ok, as long as you don’t submerge the tattoo fully in a bathtub or let it get hit by a strong stream from the showerhead. Swimming, whether it be in a pool, freshwater or saltwater must be avoided for at least 2-3 weeks.
- Remove the bandage under a hot shower as it helps and the bandage comes off easily. Pull the bandage in the direction of hair growth.
- Use a neutral soap(recommended by your artist) to wash the area without letting it get soaked. Pat dry gently and use the ointment given by your artist to keep the area moisturized.
- It is crucial that you do not expose your fresh tattoo to water and direct sunlight for a long duration.
- During the healing process keep the area moisturized and don’t panic if you see blisters, crusts, or scabs. These are normal and can last for 1-2 weeks or more.
- After your tattoo is freshly done and you have your bandage on it, you can use a bag of ice and gently compress for some relief. Be mindful of not agitating or wetting the area.
- Your new tattoo is like a fresh wound so you can exercise as long as you keep it dry, germ-free, and away from any dirt and sweat.
- If your tattoo scabs, don’t pick or expose the scabbed areas, as it may result in infection, scarring, or permanent pigment change. If the problem becomes too persistent, contact your artist and in consultation with him see a dermatologist, if necessary.
- Finally, even after your tattoo is healed, you should protect it from sunlight as it can damage the life of your tattoo. Always use a sunblock of at least SPF30 before going out.
